With over 7 billion mobile devices on the planet and cyber-threats at an all-time high, there is increasing market demand for highly secure digital solutions that also provide great user experiences. New regulations – like eIDAS – amplify that demand by creating higher standards for electronic signature compliance. Unfortunately, today’s digital signature implementations have several limitations:
Desktop only: Most digital signature solutions operate with desktop applications only. Credentials require secure signature creation devices, such as USB tokens and smart cards, which only work with desktop devices. Most of the times, you need to be sitting at your desk to digitally sign a file.
No mobile experience: Digital signatures don’t provide a mobile experience. It’s difficult and expensive to connect a signature device to mobile and given today’s standard specifications. Also, documents hosted in the cloud need to be fully downloaded to the mobile device before signing.
Web limitations: Digital signatures don’t provide a full web experience. Increasingly, web browsers are limiting options for add-in and plug-ins, which are required to support implementation with today’s standard specifications. Also, documents need to be fully downloaded before signing.
